FreeOffice
Price: $
You must have heard of Microsoft Office and you have probably used it many times in your student and professional life. SoftMaker developed an office kit named FreeOffice, and similar to MS Office, it provides office tools to assist you in your document, spreadsheets, presentation slides, and chart creation.
If you've used MS Office before, you won't have problems transitioning as it is very similar. The difference is that this office suite is completely free to use. With FreeOffice you can perform all of your necessary office work. It supports many of the MS Office's file formats (most common are DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX, TXT, and RTF).
FreeOffice is comprised of 3 office programs; TextMaker as a word processor, PlanMaker for the spreadsheets, and Presentations for creating slideshows. All of these programs support spell check. You can also export your files into PDF directly from all of them. So, let's have a glance at their features one by one.
TextMaker enables you to create documents with pictures, tables, charts, and basic shapes for illustration. It offers similar features to MS Word, like adjusting your headings and paragraphs by positioning and style features. OLE (object linking embedded) is a fascinating part of the TextMaker. It is used for embedding your spreadsheets and other objects into your documents. You can go to PlanMaker or Presentations to edit embedded sheets or presentations by just double-clicking on the embedded object.
PlanMaker enables you to create spreadsheets with charts, images, and symbols. It includes a variety of predefined formulas for better evaluation and analysis purposes. You can easily sort your alphabetic and numeric data according to your desire. Another great feature is the ability to set a special filter for sorting.
Lastly, there is FreeOffice Presentations which offers a variety of basic layouts and designs: you can insert pictures, shapes, and text frames into your presentation templates. Create your presentations by putting not just static images but also sounds and movies into slides.
In conclusion, we would like to recommend FreeOffice to anyone who needs common MS Office features but does not want to pay for MS Office. FreeOffice allows you to do pretty much anything you can do with MS Office. The format support is also great, allowing for effective import and export of all Microsoft and other document formats.
